Ishmael ben Nethaniah

Ishmael ben Nethaniah
(fl. 6th cent BCE)
   Israelite soldier. After the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians, he fled to Baalis, King of the Ammonites. When the Babylonians made the Israelite Gedaliah King of Judah, he gathered the scattered remnants of the people together and prepared to govern them. Ishamel murdered him and endeavoured to take the remaining Jewish community to Ammon, but was thwarted by Johanan ben Kareah (Jeremiah 40-41).
